Summer is here! June in the cottage garden is a time of vibrant growth, and also a fantastic opportunity to sow seeds for continuous colour right through until the first frosts. With the risk of frost well and truly gone, it's prime time for direct sowing!

What to Sow in June:

  • Direct Sow Tender Annuals: Now is the perfect time to sow heat-loving annuals like Cosmos, Zinnias, and Sunflowers directly into warm soil where they are to flower. They'll germinate quickly and catch up fast!

  • Succession Sow Hardy Annuals: Keep the flowers coming! Sow another batch of quick-flowering hardy annuals like Calendula (Pot Marigold), Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist), or Candytuft to fill any gaps and ensure blooms into late summer and autumn.

  • Biennials (Early Start): It's also a good time to get biennials like Foxgloves (Digitalis)] or Honesty (Lunaria) started in seed trays for planting out later in the year.
