Spring is springing! March is when seed sowing really gathers pace in the cottage garden. It's the perfect time to get a huge range of flowers started, setting you up for a glorious summer display. Time to dust off the propagator and prepare your seed beds!

What to Sow in March:

Indoors (Main Focus): This is prime time for sowing Half-Hardy Annuals indoors on a warm windowsill or in a greenhouse. Start your Cosmos, Zinnias, Nicotiana, Asters, Snapdragons (Antirrhinum), and many more tender varieties now for strong plants ready to go out after the last frost.

Direct Sow Outdoors (Later in Month): Towards the end of March, if the soil is workable and starting to warm, you can begin direct sowing some Hardy Annuals. Think resilient favourites like Calendula (Pot Marigold), Cornflowers, Poppies, and Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist).
