About this variety

A raspberry-pink agastache rather than the usual violet-blue. Slender tubular flowers carried in loose whorls up the stem from midsummer to the frosts, above foliage that smells strongly of mint and aniseed when brushed.

It flowers in its first summer from a spring sowing, which is unusual in a perennial and the main practical reason to grow it from seed. At around 50 to 60cm it sits in the middle of a border rather than the back.

The pink is worth a thought before you plant it. It is a warm raspberry with a coral edge, and it fights slightly with the cool blue-pinks most cottage borders are built from. It sits far better with warm colours, bronze grasses and the hot end of the border.

Like all agastache, drainage decides its life. In sharp, dry, sunny ground it will give you three or four years. In heavy soil, or through a wet winter, it rots at the crown and you will be sowing again in spring. Rabbits and deer leave the aromatic foliage alone.
