Cosmos 'Sensation Mixed' Seeds

This is the ultimate "low effort, high reward" plant. It grows rapidly to form a large, bushy cloud (up to 1.2m tall) that sways beautifully in the wind. It is a cut-and-come-again flower factory—the more you pick for your vases, the more buds it will produce, often flowering non-stop from June right through to the first frosts of November.

🌿 Understanding the Plant
Cosmos is a Half-Hardy Annual.
It originates from Mexico, so it loves the sun but cannot survive frost. It grows incredibly fast, reaching full height in just a few months.
The "Treat Mean" Rule: Unusually for a flower, Cosmos hates rich soil. If you plant it in manured ground or feed it fertilizer, it will grow into a giant green monster with zero flowers. Plant it in poor, dry soil and neglect it for the best display!
🌱 Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow
This is the perfect seed for beginners and children.
Germination:
Sow indoors from March to April, or directly outdoors in May once the soil warms up. Sow seeds 5mm deep. They germinate quickly (7-14 days) at 20°C.
Where to Sow:
They need full sun. They thrive in poor, sandy, or stony soil. They are perfect for filling gaps at the back of a border where other plants have failed.
Care While Growing:
Pinch: When seedlings are 15-20cm tall, pinch out the top growing tip. This makes the plant bushier and stops it from toppling over later.
Deadhead: This is essential. Remove dead flowers weekly to stop the plant setting seed and finishing early.

🤝 Perfect Garden Companions
The soft, ferny foliage of Cosmos makes it an excellent "blender" plant:
- 🌻 Tithonia (Mexican Sunflower): The Hot Couple. Tithonia and Cosmos are both from Mexico. Growing the bright orange Tithonia next to the magenta Cosmos creates a vibrant, fiesta-style border that loves the heat.
- 🏰 Larkspur 'Giant Hyacinth': Spikes & Saucers. The tall, rigid spikes of Larkspur provide a structural contrast to the floating, cloud-like habit of the Cosmos.
