Cynoglossum 'Mystery Rose' Seeds (Chinese Forget-me-not)
While everyone knows the classic blue Forget-me-not, 'Mystery Rose' is the sophisticated, grown-up cousin. This variety (Cynoglossum amabile) produces tall, branching sprays of flowers in a unique shade of dusty, smoky pink that looks like faded velvet.
Unlike the low-growing spring bedding types, this is a taller annual (up to 70cm) bred specifically for cutting. It produces a cloud of colour that acts as the perfect filler in bouquets, blending seamlessly with both brights and pastels. It is incredibly easy to grow, reliable, and adored by bees.

🌿 Understanding the Plant
Cynoglossum is a Hardy Annual (sometimes treated as a Biennial).
It completes its life cycle in one season but can handle cold weather.
The "Sticky" Family: It belongs to the Borage family. Like Borage and Comfrey, it has slightly hairy leaves and stems. The seeds are fascinating—they are "burrs" that stick to gloves and jumpers, which is how the plant spreads itself in the wild!
🌱 Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow
These seeds need darkness to germinate.
Germination:
Sow directly outdoors in Autumn (Sept) for the strongest, earliest plants, or Spring (March-May). Scatter seeds onto raked soil and cover well (they need the dark). Germination takes 14-21 days.
Where to Sow:
They are unfussy but prefer full sun. They will grow in almost any well-drained soil. They are tough plants that don't need pampering.
Care While Growing:
Support: Although stems are sturdy, a whole drift can flop in heavy rain. Plant them close together so they support each other, or use twiggy sticks.

🤝 Perfect Garden Companions
The smoky pink of 'Mystery Rose' looks incredible with other "antique" shades:
- 🥕 Daucus carota 'Dara': The Vintage Mix. The chocolate-maroon lace of the ornamental carrot picks up the dusty pink tones of the Cynoglossum perfectly. It's a match made in floral heaven.
- 🔵 Cornflower 'Blue Ball': The Contrast. If you want a brighter look, pair the soft pink with electric blue Cornflowers. It creates a vibrant, "wildflower meadow" aesthetic.

⚠️ Vase Life Tip
To make cut stems last longer, dip the bottom inch of the stem into boiling water for 10 seconds (searing) immediately after cutting. This stops the sap leaking and keeps the flowers fresh for up to a week.
🏆 Officially Recognised Excellence
This plant is a bee magnet. The open flowers are packed with nectar, making it a valuable addition to any pollinator-friendly garden plan.
