About this variety
Large ruffled blooms in creamy salmon and rose-pink, and a scent strong enough that one small bunch fills a room. It sits between the two sweet pea camps: the old Grandifloras, which smell extraordinary and have small flowers, and the modern Spencers, which are big and ruffled and have often lost most of the perfume. This one has the Spencer flower and most of the Grandiflora nose.
That trade-off is worth understanding before you choose any sweet pea. A great many of the large-flowered exhibition varieties were bred for the show bench, where size and form are judged and fragrance is not, and it shows. If scent is why you grow sweet peas, choose accordingly.
It is vigorous and climbs to about two metres, giving a dense screen of flower, and bees find it from across a garden.
Pick every flower as it opens, whether you need it or not. One seed pod left to form tells the plant its year's work is done, and the flowering stops within a fortnight.
