This is a preventative control, not a rescue treatment. Amblyseius andersoni is for stopping a spider mite infestation before it takes hold, particularly on houseplants, and for out-of-season cover. If you already have spider mites in large numbers, use Phytoseiulus persimilis first and keep these for afterwards.
Each sachet holds a breeding colony rather than a single dose. The mites emerge slowly over four to six weeks, which means one application keeps working across a whole stretch of the season instead of being spent in a few days. That slow release is what makes it useful as a background defence on plants you cannot easily inspect.
Its real advantage is temperature range. Amblyseius andersoni tolerates anything from 6°C to 40°C, far wider than most predatory mites manage, and that is what makes it the best early-season option available. It will be out and working while spider mites are still emerging from hibernation in early spring, which is the single best moment to break the cycle.
It is not limited to one pest. As well as red spider mite, both Tetranychus and Panonychus species, it works on fuchsia gall mite, pear blister mite, rust mites, box mite and thrips.
