Dried Salvia farinacea Bunch

Often mistaken for Lavender, Salvia farinacea (Mealy Cup Sage) offers something bolder and more structural. It produces poker-straight stems topped with dense spikes of velvet-textured flowers in a deep, electrifying shade of indigo-violet.

Unlike Lavender, which can fade to grey and shed everywhere, Dried Salvia holds its rich colour and structure perfectly. It is clean, architectural, and unscented, making it the perfect choice for dining table arrangements where you want the visual impact of blue without a heavy perfume overpowering your food.

๐ŸŒฟ What is Salvia farinacea?

This is the "Mealy Cup Sage," famous for the silver-white dusting on its stems which makes the blue flowers glow. We harvest these stems at the peak of summer when the colour is most saturated and air-dry them in the dark.

The result is a sturdy, "everlasting" stem that adds a strong vertical line to bouquets, similar to a Veronica or Delphinium but in a dried format.

๐ŸŽจ Styling Ideas

Salvia farinacea is a designer's favourite for adding depth:

  • The Lavender Alternative: Use it exactly where you would use lavender (jugs, wreaths, tied bunches) but enjoy the deeper colour and lack of mess!
  • Contrast: The deep blue looks incredible paired with bright yellow Billy Buttons or orange Strawflowers for a high-energy display.
  • Napkin Rings: Because the stems are strong and clean, a single sprig tied to a napkin makes a stunning, reusable table setting.

Perfect Dried Companions

Create a stunning everlasting bouquet by pairing Salvia with contrasting shapes:

  • ๐ŸŒ• Billy Buttons (Craspedia): The Pop of Yellow. Blue and Yellow is a classic combination. The round yellow balls of Craspedia sit beautifully against the vertical blue spikes of the Salvia.
  • ๐ŸŒพ Dried Wheat: The Rustic Look. For a farmhouse vibe, mix the deep blue Salvia with the golden, structural stems of dried wheat or barley.

โš ๏ธ Care Tip
While Salvia holds its colour brilliantly, all blue dried flowers are sensitive to direct sunlight. Keep your bunch away from south-facing windows to prevent bleaching.

๐ŸŒฟ Care & display tips
Keep your dried flowers out of direct sunlight and away from damp — both will fade and soften the stems over time. No water needed. Arrange loosely in a vase or tie with twine for a hanging display. Handle gently as dried stems can be brittle.
๐Ÿ’ Using in arrangements
Dried flowers work beautifully with other dried stems, pampas grass, and seed heads. If using in a wreath or floral foam, wire the stems first for extra security. For wedding work, we recommend ordering a little extra to allow for any breakage during handling.
๐Ÿ“ฌ Delivery & packaging
Dried flowers are packed carefully in a rigid box to protect the stems in transit. Dispatched within 2–3 working days. All packaging is compostable or recyclable. Free delivery on orders over £30.
