Dried Echinacea Cones

While Echinacea is loved for its purple summer petals, the real drama happens when the petals drop. What remains is a magnificent, cone-shaped seed head that looks like a miniature beehive or a spiky hedgehog.

Dried to a rich, warm palette of burnt orange, chocolate brown, and deep bronze, these cones are incredibly tough and long-lasting. They add a bold, architectural "full stop" to any arrangement, providing a strong, dark focal point that contrasts beautifully with light, airy grasses. Whether used in an autumn wreath or a mixed bouquet, they bring a rugged, natural beauty to your home.

🌿 What are Echinacea Cones?

These are the mature seed heads of Echinacea purpurea. We harvest them in late summer after the petals have faded but before the birds eat the seeds.

The Texture: They are hard, woody, and prickly to the touch! This makes them one of the most durable dried flowers available—they won't shed or crumble easily.

🎨 Styling Ideas

Echinacea cones are perfect for adding weight and interest:

  • Wreaths: Their solid shape and flat base make them easy to nestle into moss or foliage wreaths. They look stunning mixed with pine cones and berries for Christmas.
  • The Contrast Vase: Place them in a vase with soft, fluffy Bunny Tails. The contrast between the sharp, dark cones and the soft, light grass is striking.
  • Table Decor: Snip the heads off and use them to fill a glass bowl or scatter along a table runner for a rustic autumn dinner party.

Perfect Dried Companions

Create a balanced display by pairing the hard cones with softer textures:

  • 🐇 Bunny Tails (Lagurus): Soft vs. Spiky. The ultimate texture clash. The fluffy cream heads of Bunny Tails soften the rugged look of the Echinacea cones.
  • 🌾 Dried Wheat: The Harvest Look. Combining the dark brown cones with the golden yellow of Wheat creates a classic, warming autumn display.

⚠️ Prickly!
The "cone" is made up of sharp, stiff bristles (hence the name *Echinacea*, meaning hedgehog). Handle them by the stems to avoid pricking your fingers!

🌿 Care & display tips
Keep your dried flowers out of direct sunlight and away from damp — both will fade and soften the stems over time. No water needed. Arrange loosely in a vase or tie with twine for a hanging display. Handle gently as dried stems can be brittle.
💐 Using in arrangements
Dried flowers work beautifully with other dried stems, pampas grass, and seed heads. If using in a wreath or floral foam, wire the stems first for extra security. For wedding work, we recommend ordering a little extra to allow for any breakage during handling.
📬 Delivery & packaging
Dried flowers are packed carefully in a rigid box to protect the stems in transit. Dispatched within 2–3 working days. All packaging is compostable or recyclable. Free delivery on orders over £30.
