Larkspur is what florists reach for when they want the confetti shot to work. Rose petals are heavy and drop almost straight down. Paper sits on the ground afterwards and someone has to sweep it. Larkspur petals are feather-light, so they hang in the air and turn slowly on the way down, which is what makes the photograph.
The size helps too. Small enough to catch in hair, big enough to actually read in a picture. This is a 4g bag of mixed colours from our own larkspur fields, pinks, blues, purples and whites, entirely natural and dye-free. Because there is no plastic and no paper in it, almost every venue and church accepts it where they would turn away the alternatives, and the first decent rain takes it back into the soil.
A 4g bag is about four or five handfuls, which is one generous guest portion. Ten guests wants something nearer 40 to 50g, and a flower girl's basket takes three or four bags. Store it somewhere dark and dry until the day. Light fades the colours and any damp will make the petals clump. A cupboard or a drawer is fine, and it will keep for a year and more.
