About this product

A clean way to grow microgreens with no compost at all. Lay a mat in a seed tray, wet it through, sprinkle the seed over the top and keep it damp. The roots grow down into the mat, so when you cut the crop there's no soil on the leaves and nothing to wash off but a quick rinse.

Each mat is 18 x 33cm and made from hemp fibre bound with natural latex. They fit most standard seed trays and trim easily with scissors for anything smaller. There are three in a pack, and the packaging is plastic-free too.

They're single use: once the crop is cut, the mat goes on the compost heap, where it breaks down. Pair them with our radish, pea shoot, rocket or cress seeds for a tray of greens on the kitchen windowsill all through the winter.

Care and use

  • Place a mat in a seed tray and soak it thoroughly
  • Sow seed thickly over the surface and press it in lightly
  • Keep the mat damp with a mister or by adding a little water to the tray
  • Cut the crop with scissors just above the mat
  • Each mat grows one crop; compost it afterwards
