Dried Geum Seed Heads

While Geums are loved for their bright summer blooms, we harvest them the moment the petals fall to capture their stunning seed heads. These "Avens" produce wiry, dancing stems topped with intricate, starry, burr-like clusters that range in colour from warm reddish-brown to straw-gold.

These stems are the secret to creating that loose, "just gathered from the meadow" look. They are light, airy, and full of movement, making them the perfect filler for breaking up heavy blocks of colour in a bouquet. Whether woven into an autumn wreath or placed in a simple bud vase, they bring the untamed beauty of the British hedgerow indoors.

🌿 What are Geum Seed Heads?

These are the mature seed clusters of Geum chiloense or Geum rivale. As the flower fades, the centre expands into a fluffy, hooked ball (a burr) designed to catch onto passing fur in the wild.

We air-dry them to lock them in this architectural stage, preserving their fuzzy texture and warm, earthy tones indefinitely.

🎨 Styling Ideas

Geums add intricate detail to any arrangement:

  • Buttonholes: Their small scale and durability make them excellent for rustic wedding buttonholes, adding texture without bulk.
  • Wreaths: The wiry stems are easy to tuck into moss or twig bases. The starry heads look like little fireworks exploding from the foliage.
  • The "Meadow" Jar: Mix them with dried grasses and buttercups for a nostalgic, countryside arrangement that looks effortlessly chic.

Perfect Dried Companions

Enhance the wild look by pairing Geums with other meadow textures:

  • 🌼 Dried Oxeye Daisies: The Classic Meadow. The white petals of the daisies contrast beautifully with the rusty-red tones of the Geum seed heads.
  • 🌾 Dried Reed Grass: Softness. The fluffy plumes of the grass provide a soft background that allows the intricate, architectural shape of the Geum heads to stand out.

⚠️ Handling Tip
Geum stems are naturally thin and wiry (it's part of their charm!). Handle them gently by the base of the bunch to avoid tangling the heads.
