Hordeum (Barley) Grass Dried
Dried stems, hand-harvested from our Norfolk farm
Dried Barley Grass Bunch (Hordeum)
There is nothing that says "home" quite like a bunch of golden grain. Our Dried Barley (Hordeum) captures the essence of late summer fields, preserving that magical golden-hour glow forever.
Unlike dried wheat, which has a solid, structural shape, Barley is famous for its incredibly long, silky "whiskers" (awns) that extend from the seed head. These fine bristles catch the light beautifully, creating a soft, hazy halo around the bunch. Whether displayed in a vintage enamel pitcher or woven into a harvest wreath, it brings an instant touch of rustic, farmhouse charm to your interior.

🌾 About these Stems
These are stems of agricultural Barley (Hordeum vulgare). We harvest them just as they turn from green to gold, ensuring the heads are full and the "whiskers" are intact. They are air-dried naturally to preserve their warm, straw-yellow colour.
🎨 Styling Ideas
Barley is a versatile staple for rustic styling:
- The Farmhouse Jug: It looks best in simple vessels. A white ceramic jug, a galvanised bucket, or a mason jar suits its humble beauty perfectly.
- Autumn Wreaths: The long whiskers add amazing movement to wreaths. Tuck small bunches into a twig base for a wild, harvested look.
- Table Settings: Tie a single stem to a napkin with jute string for a beautiful, eco-friendly wedding or dinner party place setting.

Perfect Dried Companions
Barley is a "neutral," so it pairs well with almost anything:
- 🌾 Dried Wheat: The Harvest Mix. Combining Barley and Wheat creates the ultimate texture contrast—the blocky, architectural wheat heads vs. the soft, silky barley whiskers.
- 💜 Dried Lavender: The Provencal Look. The purple of Lavender and the gold of Barley is a classic combination. It evokes late summer evenings and looks stunning in a simple vase.
⚠️ Care Tip
The "whiskers" (awns) on barley are beautiful but can be brittle. Handle the bunch gently to avoid snapping them off. Keep dry and away from direct heat sources.
