Antirrhinum DoubleShot Peach

A double-flowered snapdragon, which means the dragon's mouth has gone entirely and been replaced by layers of ruffled peach petals closer to a miniature rose. On strong upright stems at 45 to 50cm, bred as a cut flower rather than a bedding plant.

The peach is the reason to grow it. It is a warm, slightly dusty shade that flatters almost everything it is put with, and it is a difficult colour to find in anything you can raise from a packet. The stems stand up to weather better than most doubles and the flowers hold their shape in water rather than dropping petals.

Two things to know. It is an F1 hybrid, so seed saved from your own plants will not come true and you will be buying again next year. And the doubling that makes the flower beautiful also closes it off, so it is of far less use to bumblebees than a single snapdragon; if the bees are the point, grow a single alongside it. The uniformity that comes with an F1 cuts both ways too. Plants flower together, which is ideal for a cutting row and a little regimented in a border.
