How to Grow Primotalii Red Chillies from Seed

7 Pot Primo crossed with Fatalii: needle-thin stinger tails, bright grapefruit and lemon flavour, and heat estimated among the hottest in existence.

The name is a portmanteau: 7 Pot Primo crossed with Fatalii, made by Chris Saunders around 2012. What it inherited is the stinger. Primotalii pods carry a needle-thin tail an inch or more long, often curled and far finer than the Reaper's hook, on a slim wrinkled body of two to three inches with skin that looks like it is boiling.

The flavour is the best thing about it: bright grapefruit and lemon citrus over something floral and faintly earthy, sweet for about a second and a half before the heat takes the room.

About this Variety

The fruit

Slim, wrinkled pods of 2 to 3 inches with a needle-thin, often curled tail.

The heat

Grower estimates put it between 1.6 and 2.2 million Scoville, though no laboratory has published a figure.

The catch

Yield is low. Fewer pods than a Carolina Reaper or 7 Pot Primo, thin-walled and light. Do not plan a year of sauce around it.

Growing note

Dislikes wet feet and is prone to fungal trouble. Water carefully and keep air moving.

Superhot handling

Wear gloves and eye protection when picking and processing the fruit. Work in a ventilated room, and keep fruit, seed and plants away from children and pets.
