About this product
The larger pack of our slug nematodes, covering 100 square metres, for allotments, vegetable plots and whole borders rather than a handful of pots. A 40 square metre pack is available for smaller areas.
These are microscopic beneficial nematodes of the genus Phasmarhabditis, watered into pots or open ground with a can or a hose. They find slugs below ground, enter through a hole in the slug's back and kill it within a few days. The slug dies underground and out of sight, which means nothing is left on the surface for hedgehogs, birds or pets, and that is the main reason to choose this over pellets.
Soil temperature must be above 5°C before you apply. Below that the nematodes are not active and the treatment is wasted, so it is worth checking rather than guessing in early spring. Once conditions are right, reapply every six weeks through the season to keep the population suppressed rather than treating once and hoping.
Water the ground before and after application, and keep it moist for a fortnight. Nematodes travel through films of water in the soil and dry ground kills them quickly.
This is a perishable live product. Do not order it more than a week before you intend to use it, and apply it as soon as it arrives rather than storing it.
