Nigella 'Miss Jekyll White' Seeds
'Miss Jekyll White' is the pure, snowy sister of the classic blue Love-in-a-mist. It produces beautiful, semi-double white flowers that sit nestled in a ruff of fine, fennel-like foliage. From a distance, a drift of these plants looks like a low-hanging cloud or a sea of foam.
This is a plant of two halves. In early summer, it is soft, romantic, and frothy—perfect for wedding bouquets and cottage borders. But as the petals fall, the centre of the flower swells into a magnificent, balloon-like seed pod. These architectural pods stand tall through autumn, providing structural interest and drying beautifully for winter arrangements.

🌿 Understanding the Plant
Nigella is a Hardy Annual.
It completes its life cycle in one season. It is named after the famous garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, who loved using it to soften the edges of her borders.
The Self-Seeder: This plant is a generous guest. If you leave the seed pods to dry on the plant, they will shake out their black seeds over the soil. You will likely find a fresh drift of Nigella seedlings popping up in the same spot next spring for free!
🌱 Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow
Nigella is one of the easiest "scatter and grow" seeds.
Germination:
Sow directly outdoors in Autumn (Sept) for early flowers next year, or Spring (March-May) for summer blooms. Scatter seeds onto raked soil and cover lightly (3mm deep). Germination takes 14-21 days.
Where to Sow:
They love sun but will tolerate light shade. They flourish in gravel gardens or average garden soil. They don't need feeding—rich soil just produces more "mist" (leaves) and fewer flowers.
Care While Growing:
They are very low maintenance. You don't need to stake them. If you want the seed pods for drying, leave the flowers alone. If you want more flowers, deadhead regularly.

🤝 Perfect Garden Companions
The pure white of 'Miss Jekyll' acts as a fresh highlight against stronger colours:
- 🔵 Cornflower 'Blue Ball': The Classic Mix. The electric blue of the cornflower and the snowy white of the Nigella is a timeless combination. The spiky cornflower stems contrast perfectly with the misty Nigella foliage.
- 🏰 Larkspur 'Giant Hyacinth Mixed': Vertical Structure. The tall, rigid spikes of Larkspur rise out of the soft, bushy cloud of Nigella, adding height and drama to the border.
