Gypsophila 'Pink' Seeds
While the classic white Baby's Breath is a florist staple, this stunning pink variety brings a softer, warmer glow to bouquets and borders. It produces masses of larger, open-faced flowers in delicate shades of rose and shell-pink, creating a misty, airy cloud of colour.
This is an upright, hardy annual variety (not the low creeping kind). It grows quickly to form branching stems that are perfect for cutting. It is the secret ingredient that turns a handful of garden flowers into a professional-looking arrangement, softening hard lines and blending colours together beautifully.

🌿 Understanding the Plant
Gypsophila elegans is a Hardy Annual.
It completes its life cycle in one season. It is famous for its speed—it can flower in as little as 8-10 weeks from sowing.
Succession Sowing: Because it flowers so quickly and profusely, it can "burn out" after a few weeks. To keep the pink clouds coming all summer, sow a small pinch of seeds every 2-3 weeks from April to June.
🌱 Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow
This plant hates root disturbance, so direct sowing is best.
Germination:
Sow directly outdoors from March to May, or in Autumn (Sept) for early flowers next year. Scatter seeds onto raked soil and cover lightly. They prefer alkaline (chalky) soil but will grow anywhere that isn't waterlogged. Germination takes 10-14 days.
Where to Sow:
They demand full sun. They get floppy in the shade. They look wonderful sown in drifts between roses or taller perennials.
Care While Growing:
They need very little care. In windy gardens, you might need to put some twiggy sticks (pea sticks) in the ground for the plants to grow through, which keeps them upright for cutting.

🤝 Perfect Garden Companions
Pink Gypsophila looks beautiful with soft whites or contrasting blues:
- 🔵 Cornflower 'Blue Ball': The Pastel Mix. The electric blue of the cornflower makes the soft pink of the Gypsophila look incredibly sophisticated. It’s a classic "baby boy/baby girl" colour palette that works well in a cottage border.
- ☁️ Cosmos 'Purity': White & Pink. The large white saucers of Cosmos look stunning rising out of a misty cloud of pink Gypsophila. Both are airy, romantic plants that move in the wind.

⚠️ Alkaline Tip
Gypsophila gets its name from "Gypsum" (chalk). It absolutely loves alkaline soil. If your soil is acidic, add some garden lime to the planting area to keep it happy.
🏆 Officially Recognised Excellence
Even though the flowers are tiny, they are a magnet for hoverflies and small solitary bees, playing a crucial role in the garden ecosystem.
