Forget-me-not 'White' Seeds
While the blue Forget-me-not is a classic, this pure white version (sometimes known as 'Snowsylva') brings a completely different energy to the spring garden. It produces low, frothy mounds of fresh green foliage smothered in thousands of tiny, sparkling white flowers with sunny yellow centres.
It acts like a spotlight in the garden. Because white reflects the most light, planting a drift of these under a tree or along a shady path instantly brightens up the space, making it feel larger and more inviting.
Why Your Garden Needs White Forget-me-nots
We love this plant for its ability to "carpet" the ground. It knits together to cover bare soil, suppressing weeds and providing the perfect backdrop for spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils. The white flowers make any bulb colour planted near them look twice as vibrant.
It is also a vital early nectar source. It blooms just as the bees are waking up from hibernation, providing them with easy-to-access energy when they need it most.
Understanding the Plant: What is a Biennial?
Forget-me-not is a Biennial.
This means it operates on a two-year cycle, so you need a little patience to start with.
Year 1: You sow the seeds in late spring or summer. The plant grows a leafy green rosette but does not flower.
Year 2: The plant bursts into a cloud of white flowers in early spring, sets seed, and then dies back.
Top Tip: It is a brilliant self-seeder. Once you have a patch established, it will drop its own seeds and come back year after year without you lifting a finger!
Growing Guide: How to Sow and Grow
This is one of the easiest plants to grow from seed—it practically grows itself.
🌱 Germination:
Sow directly outdoors from May to July. The seeds are small and black. Scatter them on the surface of bare soil where you want them to flower. They need a little light to germinate, so simply rake them in very gently or press them down. Keep moist, and they will appear in 14-21 days.
Where to Sow:
They are woodland plants by nature, so they love shade or partial shade. They thrive in the dappled light under deciduous trees or shrubs.
Care While Growing:
They need almost no care over winter. In late spring, once they have finished flowering, they can start to look a little tired. At this point, simply pull the old plants up—but shake them vigorously over the soil before you compost them. This releases thousands of seeds for next year's display.

My Recommended Garden Companions
White Forget-me-nots are neutral, so they go with everything. Here are my top pairings from the shop to create a cohesive look:
- 🌸 Aquilegia 'Nora Barlow': Aquilegias bloom in late spring just as the Forget-me-nots are peaking. The pink and white pom-poms of 'Nora Barlow' look delightful rising out of a carpet of white Myosotis.
- ☁️ Corncockle 'Bianca': If you want to create a stylish "White Garden," plan for succession. Once the white Forget-me-nots finish in May, the white Corncockles will take over in June/July, keeping the theme going.
📅 Sowing & Flowering Calendar

⚠️ A Note on Mildew
Forget-me-nots can be prone to powdery mildew (white dust on leaves) if they get too dry in late spring. Keep them moist, and if they look scruffy after flowering, just pull them up—they will have already dropped their seeds for next year!
🏆 Officially Recognised Excellence
