About this product
Full description
The microgreen that stops people asking what it is and starts them asking where to get some. Rambo is a radish bred specifically for microgreen growing, selected for intensity of colour: stems that turn deep dense purple within hours of meeting light, and violet flushes across the developing leaves.
The flavour matches the drama — sharp, peppery and reliable, more intense than the older China Rose. It concentrates everything a full-grown radish offers into a single crisp mouthful.
The purple depends entirely on light. Cover the tray for the first two or three days to draw the stems up, then uncover and give it the brightest windowsill you have. A shady spot produces pale, disappointing shoots; bright light produces the colour that makes Rambo worth growing. Seven days from sowing, no pre-soaking needed, single harvest per tray.
Care and use
- Fill shallow tray (5-7cm deep) with moist seed compost or vermiculite
- Damp not soggy - well-drained essential
- Scatter seeds thickly across surface in single dense layer
- Do NOT pre-soak - direct sowing is correct for this variety
- Press gently into contact with compost
DARKNESS PHASE (Days 1-3):
- Cover with second tray or cardboard to exclude light
- Keep at 18-22°C
- Do not water unless surface drying
- Darkness triggers stem elongation
LIGHT PHASE (Day 3-4):
- Uncover when shoots are 2-3cm tall
- Move to bright windowsill immediately
- Purple colour develops rapidly within 24 hours
- Mist twice daily with spray bottle
GROWING (Days 4-7):
- Continue misting twice daily
- Watch purple deepen dramatically each day
- Violet cotyledons develop fully
HARVEST (Day 7):
- Harvest when shoots are 5-7cm tall
- Seed leaves should be fully open and coloured
- Cut with sharp scissors just above soil line
- Rinse briefly, dry gently, use fresh
- NO SECOND HARVEST - discard compost after cutting
