About this product

Full description

The microgreen that needs no explanation. If you already use rocket on pizza, in salads and through pasta, you will use this the same way — and the difference in freshness is considerable. Rocket that has spent three days in a plastic bag is a different thing from rocket cut minutes before it hits the plate.

The microgreen version is cleaner and milder than the mature leaf. Full-grown rocket develops sharper, sometimes bitter notes over weeks of growth; harvested at seven to ten days you get the same peppery-nutty character without the bite or the woody stem.

Bright indirect light suits it best — strong sun through glass toughens the shoots and pushes them towards bitterness, so an east or north-facing sill is better than a south one. No pre-soaking, sow direct, seven to ten days to harvest.

Care and use
SOWING (Day 0):
- Fill shallow tray (5-7cm deep) with moist seed compost or vermiculite
- Damp not soggy - well-drained essential
- Scatter seeds thickly across surface in single dense layer
- Do NOT pre-soak - direct sowing correct for this variety
- Press gently into contact with compost

DARKNESS PHASE (Days 1-3):
- Cover with second tray or cardboard to exclude light
- Keep at 18-22°C
- Do not water unless surface drying
- Darkness triggers stem elongation

LIGHT PHASE (Day 3-4):
- Uncover when shoots are 2-3cm tall
- Move to bright windowsill (indirect light preferred - strong direct
sun through glass increases bitterness)
- Shoots green up within 24 hours
- Mist twice daily with spray bottle

GROWING (Days 5-10):
- Continue misting twice daily
- Growth accelerates visibly each day
- Peppery aroma develops even before harvest

HARVEST (Day 7-10):
- Harvest when shoots are 5-8cm tall
- Seed leaves should be fully open and greened up
- Cut with sharp scissors just above soil line
- Rinse briefly, dry gently, use fresh

LIMITED SECOND HARVEST:
- Leave 1-2cm of stem when cutting first harvest
- Continue misting
- Second flush possible in 7-10 days but less vigorous
- Most growers find fresh sowing more productive
