Dried Echinops Bunch (Globe Thistle)

Echinops, or Globe Thistle, is famous for its perfect, golf-ball-sized flower heads in a striking shade of metallic steel-blue. Each sphere is spiky and geometric, sitting atop a sturdy, silver-grey stem.

These bunches add instant drama and texture to any arrangement. Their cool blue tones and rigid shape make them a favourite for adding a "pop" of colour to neutral dried bouquets. Whether you display a few stems in a narrow-necked bottle for a minimalist look, or use them to add height and interest to a rustic wedding arrangement, they are a long-lasting, fade-resistant statement piece.

🌿 About these Stems

These are the air-dried stems of Echinops ritro. We harvest them just before the tiny individual florets open fully, locking in that intense blue colour.

The Texture: They are hard, spiky, and woody. This makes them incredibly durable compared to delicate dried petals.

🎨 Styling Ideas

Echinops is a versatile structural plant:

  • The Contrast: Pair the spiky, hard lines of Echinops with soft, fluffy grasses like Bunny Tails. The contrast in texture is stunning.
  • Buttonholes: A single small Echinops head makes a fantastic, masculine focal point for a wedding buttonhole (Groom's flower).
  • Modern Minimalist: Three stems in a grey concrete or clear glass vase looks like a piece of modern sculpture.

Perfect Dried Companions

Soften the spikes by pairing Echinops with these gentler textures:

  • 🐇 Bunny Tails (Lagurus): Hard vs. Soft. The fluffy, cream-coloured heads of Bunny Tails look adorable nestled against the hard, metallic spikes of the Globe Thistle.
  • 🌾 Dried Wheat: Blue & Gold. The warm golden tones of dried wheat provide a classic complementary contrast to the cool blue of the Echinops. Ideally suited for harvest-style decor.

⚠️ Prickly!
Echinops is a thistle, and the leaves on the stem can be sharp. We strip most of the foliage off, but handle the bunch carefully to avoid pricked fingers.

🌿 Care & display tips
Keep your dried flowers out of direct sunlight and away from damp — both will fade and soften the stems over time. No water needed. Arrange loosely in a vase or tie with twine for a hanging display. Handle gently as dried stems can be brittle.
💐 Using in arrangements
Dried flowers work beautifully with other dried stems, pampas grass, and seed heads. If using in a wreath or floral foam, wire the stems first for extra security. For wedding work, we recommend ordering a little extra to allow for any breakage during handling.
📬 Delivery & packaging
Dried flowers are packed carefully in a rigid box to protect the stems in transit. Dispatched within 2–3 working days. All packaging is compostable or recyclable. Free delivery on orders over £30.
