The Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion is a legendary and highly stable hybrid within the Capsicum chinense genus, the species responsible for the vast majority of the world's most extreme chilli peppers. It was famously created by a chilli grower named Jay Weaver in Pennsylvania, USA, as a cross between two titans of the super-hot world: the Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) and the Trinidad Scorpion. The "Peach" refers to its beautiful, unique colouration when ripe. This hybrid was developed to combine the intense heat and the distinctive "scorpion's tail" morphology of the Trinidad Scorpion with the lingering heat and slightly more fruity notes of the Ghost Pepper, resulting in a truly exceptional and fearsome pepper.

Scoville Rating/Heat Level Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion is an absolute titan of heat. It typically registers between 1,000,000 to over 1,800,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). This places it firmly in the very top tier of the world's hottest chillies, often rivalling or even surpassing the heat of the Carolina Reaper. Expect an immediate, agonizing, and prolonged burn that quickly engulfs the entire palate and body, providing an almost spiritual experience for the truly dedicated chillihead. Due to its astonishing heat, extreme caution is non-negotiable. Always wear protective gloves and eyewear, and avoid any direct contact with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Use in incredibly small quantities and with the utmost respect. Not recommended for casual consumption.
Plant Size The Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion plant is a vigorous and often large, sprawling grower, typically reaching a height of 90-120 cm (36-48 inches). It develops a sturdy main stem and numerous lateral branches, often benefiting from substantial staking or support due to its impressive productivity and the weight of its substantial fruit
Pod Size The pods are visually distinctive and incredibly appealing, despite their menacing nature. They ripen from a light green to a unique, glossy pastel peach or salmon colour when fully mature. They are generally large, measuring 5-8 cm (2-3.2 inches) in length and 3-5 cm (1.2-2 inches) in diameter, exhibiting the highly irregular, gnarled, and deeply wrinkled surface characteristic of many extreme super-hot C. chinense varieties. Many pods feature a prominent "scorpion's tail" at the blossom end, a clear nod to one of its parent varieties.
Flavour Hungarian Hot Wax Chillies boasts a crisp, fresh, and slightly sweet flavour. It has a pleasant mild pepper taste with a noticeable tangy undertone and a crisp, juicy texture. This flavour profile makes it exceptionally versatile. It's the quintessential pickling pepper, but also fantastic for slicing fresh into salads, sandwiches, or tacos, stuffing with cheese or meat, or adding a gentle warmth to stir-fries, omelettes, and stews. Its robust flavour holds up well to cooking and various preservation methods.
Growing Conditions

Use a light, well-draining seed-starting mix. Sow seeds ¼ inch (0.6 cm) deep.  Sow seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost date. Optimal soil temperature: 26–32°C (80–90°F); using a heat mat is strongly recommended for Capsicum chinense varieties.  Maintain high humidity by covering trays with a plastic dome or plastic wrap.  Provide 12–16 hours of light per day, ideally with grow lights.  Transplant seedlings outdoors when they have 4–6 true leaves and nighttime temperatures consistently stay above 15°C (59°F). Harden plants off for 7–10 days before moving them outside.  Space plants 50–60 cm (20–24 inches) apart in rows 70–90 cm (28–36 inches) apart.  Feed every 3–4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) or switch to a high-potassium fertilizer once plants begin to flower and set fruit.

All plants are grown on our farm in Norfolk, UK and are grown in an open pollinated area.
