The Lemon Habanero is a vibrant and fiery variety of Capsicum chinense, best known for its stunning bright yellow colour, blistering heat, and intense citrus-fruity aroma. It typically reaches 200,000–350,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), similar to the classic orange habanero, but with a brighter, tangier, almost lemon-like twist to its flavour profile. This variety is popular with hot sauce makers.

The Lemon Habanero is a dazzling, citrus-flavoured fireball, beloved for its beauty, intense heat, and bright tropical flavour. With proper care, it rewards growers with a heavy harvest of glowing yellow pods that can transform hot sauces, salsas, and dishes with both colour and searing heat — a perfect pick for gardeners and chefs looking for something bold and beautiful.

Quantity of Seeds 10 seeds per packet
Origin Likely a cultivar of the standard Habanero, origins tracing back to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Genus Capsicum Chinense
Scoville Rating/Heat Level 200,000–350,000 SHU — very hot, with an immediate, sharp burn.
Plant Size Typically 60–90 cm (24–36 inches); in ideal conditions, sometimes taller.  Compact, bushy, and branching.  Dark green, medium-sized, slightly crinkled leaves.  Small, creamy-white flowers typical of Capsicum species.  Prolific producer with dozens of pods per plant over a season.
Pod Size Lantern- or teardrop-shaped, slightly wrinkled pods about 4–6 cm (1.5–2.5 inches) long and 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 inches) wide.  Green when immature → bright, lemon-yellow at maturity.  Thin- to medium-walled, crisp when fresh.
Flavour Fruity, tangy, with distinct citrus or lemon-like undertones, making it stand out from standard orange habaneros.  Ideal for fresh salsas, citrus-forward hot sauces, pickling, spicy marinades, Caribbean cooking, and drying into bright yellow powder.
Growing Conditions

Use a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sow seeds ¼ inch (0.6 cm) deep.  Sow seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost date.  Ideal soil temperature: 26–32°C (80–90°F); using a heat mat significantly improves germination rates.  Maintain high humidity by covering trays with a plastic dome or plastic wrap.  Provide 12–16 hours of bright light daily using a grow light or sunny windowsill.  Transplant seedlings when they have 4–6 true leaves and night time temperatures stay above 15°C (59°F). Harden off seedlings for 7–10 days before planting outdoors.  Space plants 45–60 cm (18–24 inches) apart in rows 70–90 cm (28–36 inches) apart.  Start with a balanced fertilizer during early growth, then switch to a high-potassium formula when flowering starts to encourage fruit production.

All plants are grown on our farm in Norfolk, UK and are grown in an open pollinated area.
