Agapanthus 'Big Blue' Seeds
A standout in the garden, 'Big Blue' is prized for its majestic, globe-like heads of deep blue, trumpet-shaped flowers. It's an easy-to-grow workhorse that provides a splash of brilliant, architectural colour all summer.
Dramatic Flowers for Borders & Pots
This is a must-have for adding height and structure. The strong, stout stems rise above glossy, strap-shaped leaves, making it perfect for borders or as a stunning centrepiece in a large pot. Agapanthus often flower best when their roots are restricted, making them an ideal and striking plant for container growing.
A Hardy Perennial for Pollinators & Drying
A reliable, clump-forming perennial that will return and improve year after year,. Once established, it is impressively drought-tolerant,. The nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for bees and butterflies. After flowering, the architectural seed heads can be left for winter interest or cut for drying.
How to Grow Agapanthus 'Big Blue'
We recommend sowing in Spring. Sow seeds on the surface of a moist, gritty seed compost and cover with a very fine layer of compost or grit. Germination is slow and can take 4-6 weeks or longer. Keep the pot in a cool greenhouse or cold frame. Pot on seedlings and grow on for a year or two before planting out. Please be patient: flowering can take 2-3 years from seed, but it is well worth the wait.
Pairs beautifully with other sun-loving perennials or ornamental grasses. Explore our full Perennials Collection or see our Plants for Pollinators range.
