A beautiful, versatile vegetable with large colourful leaves and red hearts. It makes a wonderful addition to autumn salads, adding a crisp texture and a distinctive slightly bitter taste. If the leaves are grilled or roasted the taste becomes far more mellow.
- Sow direct in June 15mm deep, 25cm apart
- Temperature needs to be 10-21 degrees to germinate
- Water well and thin to 30cm when the seedlings appear
- Sow Jun-July to harvest Sept-Nov
- Likes full sun
