The Habanero Tabaquite originates from the region of Tabaquite in Trinidad and Tobago, an island nation renowned for its exceptional diversity of super-hot chilli peppers. It is a specific, stable landrace or heirloom cultivar within the Capsicum chinense genus, the species responsible for many of the world's hottest and most aromatic chillies. Its development is deeply rooted in local Trinidadian cultivation, where it has been grown for generations and perfected for its consistent heat and unique characteristics, embodying the rich culinary heritage of the Caribbean.

Scoville Rating/Heat Level Prepare for a powerful and lingering heat! The Habanero Tabaquite typically registers between 200,000 to 400,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). This places it firmly in the "super-hot" category, delivering a searing heat that builds quickly and provides a substantial, enduring burn. It's significantly hotter than a standard orange Habanero and comparable to many Scotch Bonnet varieties, making it an excellent choice for those who truly appreciate a potent capsaicin kick. Due to its high heat, handling these chillies with care is advised. Wear gloves, and avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas.
Plant Size The Habanero Tabaquite plant is a robust and moderately sized grower, typically reaching a height of 60-90 cm (24-36 inches). It develops a sturdy, well-branched structure with lush green foliage and often exhibits good productivity.
Pod Size The pods are visually distinctive and quite appealing. They ripen from a light green to a brilliant, glossy golden-orange or vibrant red when fully mature, often with a slightly irregular or crinkled surface. Their most unique feature is their shape: they are typically 3-5 cm (1.2-2 inches) in length and 2-3 cm (0.8-1.2 inches) in diameter, often resembling a slightly elongated, crumpled lantern or a flattened, bumpy heart, sometimes with a small indentation at the bottom
Flavour Beyond its formidable heat, the Habanero Tabaquite offers a remarkably complex and sought-after flavour profile, highly characteristic of premium Capsicum chinense varieties. It is intensely aromatic, releasing a strong fruity and floral fragrance. Upon tasting, it delivers a distinct tropical fruitiness, often described as having notes of apricot, mango, or citrus, providing a fascinating, bright counterpoint to its intense heat. This rich, complex flavour makes it an exceptional ingredient for crafting intensely hot sauces, vibrant salsas, marinades for jerk chicken or fish, and for adding an authentic Caribbean kick to stews, curries, and fruit-based hot sauces.
