Chiltepin Amarela Chilli often referred to as tepin, tecpin or chiltepictl, is a juniper berry-sized variant of the Capsicum annuum species and is believed to be the ancestor to most domesticated chillies.

Widely used in Sonora, northern Mexico, which is believed to be its origin, the chiltepin is referred to as the 'mother of all peppers', and is officially recognised as the 'native pepper of Texas'.

Due to over-harvesting in its native environment, the historic and rarely found Chiltepin Amarela Chilli is threatened with extinction despite the practices encouraging sustainable picking.
