Aji Champion is a remarkable chilli originating from South America that is ideal for beginning gardeners. It can easily be germinated and produces a long-lasting yield.

It is an amazing producer of bell-shaped pods with a delicious light citrusy sweet flavour. The pods are 3-4 cm long and 3 cm wide, they start light green, then change to orange and end up a bright red colour.

Pod Description

Aji Champion chillies usually grow and mature to around 3-4 cm long and 3 cm wide and develop bell-shaped pods similar to an Aji Fantasy or Bishops Hat chilli but we find it much tastier and full of citrus flavours.  As usual, the pods start off light green, then change to orange and end up a bright red colour.  They are best picked and used just before they are fully mature and only have a slight pungency, pick just as they are changing from yellow to orange and you will be amazed at the depth of flavour.

Growing Info

If you are growing these in a pot they will usually grow from 70cm-80cm high and about 60cm spread, however, if you grow them in the ground they can reach up to 1.5m high.  This would be a great choice for a beginner as it is fairly easy to germinate and produces a high yield of pods with a low heat level.

Cooking & Eating

This chilli is perfect for salads, salsas, pickling, or making a scrumptious chilli jam.
