A true standout amongst its Indian counterparts, the Bangalore Torpedo Chilli is renowned for its impressive yields.

This variety of chilli is able to reach a height of up to one meter in a pot and is larger when grown in the ground. Its wide and bushy nature produces an abundance of 10-12 cm long pods with a transition from light green to a vibrant red at full maturity. Occasional twisting may occur, although the majority remain bent.

Moderate spiciness, Bangalore Torpedo Chilli is suited for most dishes and can be used in salads or used to bring a hint of heat to a stir-fry.

Overall the Bangalore Torpedo Chilli is a great plant to have in your chilli collection.  We love cooking with these chillies and find they have a distinctive similar taste to black pepper when cooked in dishes.

Growing Info

Bangalore Torpedo Chilli will require some space to grow as this plant tends to spread out unless trained. Its spreading growth habit makes it easy to maintain and allows for a larger overall yield of chillies.

Cooking & Eating

For the pickling of the chillies start by washing them thoroughly, then puncturing the flesh with a few holes to make the pickling liquor's job easier. Pack as many chillies as you can into a sanitized jar to enable individual chilli-pulling later. Prepare your pickling liquor by combining 500ml water, 500ml vinegar and 2 teaspoons of non-iodised salt.

Combine ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes and gently pour the liquid into the jar of chillies until all are submerged, cautiously tapping the container to eliminate any air bubbles. Close the jar firmly and the pickled chillies should be ready in two weeks. These can be retained unopened for up to a year and stored in the refrigerator once opened.
